It’s really hard to know where to start today.

But, it all oddly fell together.

On the Left’s Laughing Response to Trump’s Address to the Nation - bad news, friends. The joke’s on us.

We’re not laughing at Trump. We’re chuffing ourselves, quietly, or loudly, extolling our own intelligence and decency while the governing claim passes us by, scarcely examined.

That is SELFCAST: a media structure that turns every exercise of power into a stage on which citizens judge themselves through the politician, instead of judging what the government is actually doing.

And, there was plenty of laughing.

“The documents don’t even SUPPORT what he’s saying!”

And, that misses the point.

Evidence to support his claim(s)?

Not required.

The thing we need to worry about is not the speech, you see. It is Trump's base, and the B-roll Nation they live in.

Poorly received as it was, Trump will simply start to lean on his loyalist allies in the media to take the ideas on board. They, drawn by dollars, will soon warm to elements of the lies. And the B-Rolls will play.

Friends - the guy FFS sent an armed battalion of irregulars to attack our seat of government. And, today, his media mirror squad are arguing how many MILLIONS of dollars each one SHOULD BE PAID.

So, SELFCAST the speech all you want into “everything Trump touches dies.” Soon enough, the ideas will move to the rightist hymnal.

Thanks to the B-roll, and it’s delicious delivery in tiny bite-sized clips.

“Selfcast?! B-Roll?! Never Heard of It.”

“And, even if that’s true - pal, Dems on a ROLL! So you can CHOKE on that Debby-Downerism you’ve got going on there.”

You betcha. Sure. Relax.

But, right on cue, this:

Remember how good all that Hopium was when you were smoking it in ’24.

Admittedly, it’s from the WaPo - which might just as well be called,

“Blue Origin Telethon. Thank you for calling. Are you pledging for yourself, or a family member?”

Ok, but, beyond the Washington Post, compromised as it is, how about our still-standing journalists, the real kind?

Where we saw how the “battle” storyline was going to emerge.

Because, the ONLY thing the media wants is a good story.

What’s a good story, you say?

Ask Fox.

Greg Gutfeld, draws roughly twice the audience of MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell and around four times that of CNN’s Abby Phillip in the same 10 p.m. time slot.

And, parody of democrats is THE story of Fox broadcasts.

For the lagging-behind regular media, then, seeing internal division within the left, that’s an exact reflection of the Right’s take.

They can hardly believe their good luck.

For ONCE, they get to play in that game.

And, a game it will be,

“Do you think socialism is right for Oklahoma?”

What’s THAT going to look like?

“Just like I told you!?

The Democrat party.

So high minded!

They don’t even agree among themselves! Harrumph! / Hooray!”

There’s almost no way out from this, not least of all because the DSA people have their slogans down PAT.

How’s THIS for a line,

“This is about the many versus the money.”¹

Dammmmmmnnnnnn, right?

And, said with the most wicked verve, you just wanna suit up your left-leaning armor.

Plus, they DSAs are SO media hungry.

And, the majors are BOOKING! Dem parody - finally playing on OUR networks!

As Stevens and El-Sayed each take turns indirectly stoking indifference, contempt and malice for each other for the next two weeks, the media will simply keep spinning the turnstile of dollars the spectacle creates. And, each camp’s voters harden against the other.

Remember “Bernie Bros?”

How many sat out the election in ’16?

Vox’s episode show’s what’s coming -

“How the Michigan Senate primary became a battle for Democrats’ soul”!

That’s the drama they want, right?

“All Democrats want is a fighter!”

Is that actually even true?

The people who want a “fighter” are - only… the media.

To a person.

(Right down to those in exile on the various “stacks,” such as there are.)

What needs to happen now in the wake of Platner is A Democrat needs to come out with “fixes.”

This isn’t Mamdani-esque. (There’s a subdural menace to him, and all the DSA, at least to a middle-of-the-road D like me.)

Fixes. Something like:

“Demand higher wages!”? Across the board.

Record-high corporate profits.

People keep saying, “The government needs to lower prices!”

The frickin’ GOVT dosen’t lower prices.

But WE can demand higher WAGES. And, ONLY patronize those who PAY living wages to people on the job 40+ / 5.

• A G. Z. Bill for Gen Z - to buy starter homes.

• A fair, lawful, and rewarding resolution to immigration, faithful to the American tradition.

• And! Tax the Apps. (Whole PAPER on that here.)

• And! An ASSET tax. STOP calling it a “wealth” tax.

Then, just go around and defend them DOWN TO THE LAST dollar.

Without regard to what “wing” of the party the WWE-scribblers want to put them in.

I think we could pretty much campaign just on electric cards and win at this point, right?

And, without offering “a fighter” for the networks to spin hours of simplistic, “Bros v Berns,” “DSA v DSCC” and the stomach-churning hair splitting of, “Do you support Chuck Schumer?”

Simple.

“That’s a pretty interesting argument there. I think all of that can be handled once we win. For right now, I’m focused on these core issues right here. I’m gonna keep my head down and keep campaigning on them.

I’m confident that we’ll come to a good consensus answer on those other questions in time. I trust that voters will take my discipline here to stay focused as evidence of my good faith.

The Democratic Party is a coalition. We want to offer everyone a home to every person of goodwill who KNOWS what the American Dream is – and how, working together, we plan to put it back in reach of every person willing to work all day to get it.”

No matter if it’s Stevens or El-Sayed:

• turn down the juice.

• ADMIT there are differences in the party.

• Point out that difference is the very PURPOSE of America.

Then, focus on ISSUES. Concrete deliverables.

Because, friends, you see - the Right ain’t going to sit this one out.

If Ds spend the next two weeks, and then even the 91 days after primaries tearing each other apart on networks only to delight the show bookers, little will be gained.

Potentially everything, in terms of positioning Ds to win, will be lost.

Socialists. I wonder if Republican media has a playbook for that?

Crusading Socialists offer all left-leaning people hope.

But, they are so easily managed by the Right Media Machine.

Talarico may win in Texas, and if he does it will likely be because they can’t lay a glove on him. Had he been DSA since senior high, that’s far less likely.

And, friends - it’s ALL about WINNING this term.

Hell, if McMorrow can drop out, I’m almost inclined to ask El-Sayed to drop out, or come on board as Lt. Govenor. Because we CAN’T AFFORD TO LOSE.

Look at the poll that has Republicans AHEAD!

As soon the primaries end, the hammers will start to fall. Through every level of the Republican Media Conveyor Belt.

Interviews.

Something like this,

“So, you think private property should be re-distributed.”

“Private property is immoral!”

Remember Graham Platner?

The ONLY people who want to see Democrats set against each other are the media, and the Republicans themselves.

A different kind of campaigning is called for today.

One that puts major solution policies forward, and then CAMPAIGNS on them.

And, that can manage the smaller issues with aplomb and in the SPIRIT of a coalition leader.
